Meet Alex, APRN & Founder of BPC
Alex Berg of Largo officially launched Berg Primary Care House Calls in August 2021.
Tell us about your business.
It is my goal to provide affordable primary care solutions to people for health screenings, illness and chronic disease management, or as a transition from hospital to home. I have always loved home-based practice which provides people with one-on-one, individualized care helping them achieve their life goals despite health issues.
I have been a nurse practitioner for many years and I know the struggles people face with accessing healthcare. A person may find it difficult to make it to a healthcare facility either because of physical or cognitive limitations or because of fatigue from a recent hospitalization. Some people enjoy having a provider come to their house or office; while others have difficulty finding a primary care provider or lack insurance.
What services do you provide?
House calls include a complete history, physical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic medical conditions, prescription management, orders for lab/radiology, referrals to specialty providers, referrals for home health services, screening for risk factors, and education around disease management. Additional services include medication management, immunizations, wound care, cognitive screening. Basically, almost anything that you would receive in a primary care office can be done during a house call.
And you are a nurse practitioner? What is your experience?
When I graduated high school I moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to obtain a BS in nursing from Vanderbilt University. My first years in nursing were spent in the surgical/trauma ICU, and I moved to Charlottesville in 1993 to complete my master's degree in nursing at The University of Virginia. In 1995, I moved to Atlanta where I worked for Emory University Hospital and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for 18 years as a heart transplant coordinator. During this time I went back to school and completed a post-master’s nurse practitioner program at Emory University in 2000. This was a wonderful time in my career where I became an expert in the management of chronic health issues in a medically fragile population. More importantly, I helped people see past their health hurdles and meet their goals for health, family, community, and jobs.
In 2014, I transitioned from transplant to primary and post-acute care. In this healthcare provider role I found it more important than ever to help people manage health challenges while meeting their life goals.
Do you take insurance?
I am not aligned with any managed care or private insurance plans. I will provide an itemized invoice that can be submitted to your private insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement.
How would someone contact you?

Tell us about you…
I am a proud native of this area. I was born at Morton Plant Hospital, attended Anona Elementary, Largo Middle School, and graduated from Largo High School in 1985. We are members of Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church, Boy Scouts, and my son is in 6th grade at Admiral Farragut Academy. I am also a nurse practitioner volunteer at the Clearwater Free Clinic, a licensed foster home through Eckerd Connects, and have enjoyed being on the Blue Jean Ball committee for the last 3 years to raise money for Hope Villages of America (formerly RCS).
